Evil-yna here for a while?

Last night was tough in the same way that the previous night was, maybe even more so. Eve cried a lot in between 2-3 hour stretches of sleeping. Her needs are no longer as simple as filling her up and putting her down to sleep. More specifically, she only seems to be consoled by being latched to mom's breast, even when she doesn't appear to be hungry. So, in summary, there are only 3 acceptable states of the world for her right now --
1) sleeping;
2) feeding;
3) latched to breast but not feeding.

I can do little to console her, even with a bottle of breast milk (Martha has started pumping a little). Being powerless to stop my own child's crying is a terrible feeling! At the same time, this gives me a new appreciation for the unique mother-child bond, which is touching to see between Martha and Eve. For now I will just have to focus on other ways to make Eve feel loved and to help Martha with the household.

Eve's fussiness may be related to her small size and early arrival. Her stomach is probably small and her digestive system may not be as developed as a typical newborn. Daniel's sister Sarah and her husband David had similar issues with their little one, Eli, who was born six months ago at 6.5 lbs (and dropped to 6 lbs before rebounding strongly).

We'll keep experimenting with ways to make Eve the happiest little baby in the universe (on our block she's the only baby, so let's expand our ambitions!).

  1. Is "Evil-yna" a reference to Skeletor's evil female counterpart? If not, it should be.

  2. Did Skeletor have an evil counterpart? He seemed too focused on evil to have a love life.

  3. We always read the blog! Last time I tried to post a comment- I was denied. I usually log in under mom's or nina's account. Just to keep it real- Eli was born 6 months ago at 6 lbs and went down to 5.11 lbs. The first 2 months were ROUGH! He had to held constantly and liked my breast as a pacifier.

    It keeps getting better I promise.

    One thing David did starting week 4 was take charge of putting Eli to bed. He fed Eli with a bottle, swaddled him, and rocked him to sleep every night. It became his thing.
