the sleep monster
Our milk monster is now showing signs of being a sleep monster too, just like her dad. Last night she slept for over six straight hours until her mom cruelly woke her up to feed her.

chubbier every day
Eve is making her way out of the flyweight category -- up to 8 lbs 11 oz. She's having a good time this week with Oma E. She also managed to stay awake during a Skype session with Sarah, David, and Eli. In general she has been much more alert than in previous weeks. She even seems to be halfway towards smiling every now and then. Her weekend plans include eating, sleeping, and pooping.

Eve senses this is a special day
In honor of Obama's inauguration, Eve is being extra cute today. She is optimistic about what the country and the world will look like four years from now. She thinks it is fitting that today she sent in her (revised) photo for a U.S. passport.

passport photo saga continues
Eve received a letter in the mail this week from the U.S. Passport Office in Chicago. The letter informs her that they cannot use the photo she included in her application, because "the facial image is obscured." The photo in question is shown below. I guess Homeland Security wants to make sure that Eve is not the infamous three-chinned terrorist baby.

Oh well...we'll get some "better" photos and send them back right away. We still have time to get the passport for the trip to Mexico on Feb 21.

flashback to Gremlins
When she sleeps, Eve occasionally makes a high-pitched, vibrato sound that seems like it cannot possibly be human. And yet it seems vaguely familiar. Last night I finally figured out where I have heard that sound: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euhUfZGddwk

Being cute is pretty much...
different planets
crossing the 8 lb barrier
On a full stomach (w/ clean diapers and clothes): 8 lbs, 1.5 oz
It's funny that she can drink about 5% of her body weight in milk in one sitting (one lying?). Unfortunately she is starting to burp back up a large proportion of that milk. We're hoping she will become more lady-like soon.

catching up on photos
My photo-taking has slowed down lately, perhaps because of the back problems I've been having. You would be surprised how many back muscles are essential for photography. But I'm starting to feel better, so I hope to pick up the pace again.
Oma B (Martha's mom) is leaving today. She has been a pleasure to have around, and she has been wonderful to us. We are very grateful for her visit, which required using up two weeks of her limited time away from her job. We have been constantly discovering her doing things around the house to help, such as cleaning, shoveling snow in the driveway (6 more inches of snow today!), cooking, finishing the table that we've been painting, installing a backsplash behind our oven, folding laundry, changing diapers, putting away Christmas ornaments, and much more. Thank you, Oma B, for everything!
We'll now have 11 days on our own, which should be a useful experiment as we figure out what type of child care we'll need in the coming months. And then Oma E (Daniel's mom) will arrive for another visit, to be joined by Opa E (Daniel's dad) for the second week of her visit. We look forward to their return!

today's resolution
I am imposing on myself a one-day moratorium on potty-mouthed humor (sharts, etc). Don't worry, tomorrow is a new day.

Shart attack
Today Eve has been sharting a lot, and is none too happy about it. At least her pediatrics visit went well -- the doctor said she's doing great.

nephews
Below are some great photos courtesy of Martha's sister Rebecca. She visited us this past week with her boys Samuel (2) and Luke (9 months). Martha's other sister Hannah also visited us for a day and a half, with her boy Elijah (7). So Eve has already met 3 of her 4 cousins (she'll meet the 4th, Eli, in late February during the Eisenbergs' family trip).
We really enjoyed spending time with Rebecca, Samuel, Luke, Hannah, and Elijah (not to mention Martha's mom Anne, who has been here too!). Samuel, Luke, and Elijah are fun and cute nephews -- very energetic, to say the least!
