magical chair

It's scary how hypnotized Eve becomes by this chair.

blogging lull

Teaching classes and watching basketball have resulted in a lull in my blogging. I expect to pick up the pace again soon. In the meantime, here are a couple photos of our favorite girl. She is doing great...more personality every day.

Eve is feeling the March Madness

Eve is currently in 4th place out of 59 entries in Louis's NCAA pool. She knows her basketball. If UNC wins the title she'll have a decent shot of raking in about $1,000, which we would stow away to pay for a day's worth of college in 2027. Eve is a little nervous about UNC's matchup today against LSU. Her favorite and UNC's most important player Ty Lawson has been sitting out with a toe injury. If Ty is back in the lineup today then Eve will return to her optimistic ways.

surviving the winter

Eve has now lived exactly one winter's worth of life. Tomorrow she will have an extra spring in her baby steps.

March Madness like you've never experienced it

Over the years my brother Louis has refined his March Madness bracket website, Bracketastic, into what I would argue is the best such site on the web. It's really easy to use, and has some unique yet unobtrusive features, such as a simulation that projects everyone's estimated probability of winning their pool after each round.

Eve is participating this year. If you don't know which team she is picking to win it all, then you haven't been paying close enough attention to this blog (hint: her middle name). I encourage you to join the pool and see if you can do better than a 3 month old!

meeting new people

Earlier this week Eve had the privilege of meeting our dear relative Denise, who is visiting from France. Eve showed her love for Denise with what Denise called a "festival" of smiles.

Eve also had a great time meeting our dear friends Ezra and Sarah, who live in Philadelphia. Do not be fooled by Eve's slightly troubled look in the photo below -- she is a big fan of Ezra and Sarah.

Eve's challenge to you, dear blog reader

Bet you can't help smiling. Ah ha, I see that smile!

supernanny

A couple weeks ago we hired Kristene Sellars to take care of Eve during workdays. Kristene has already been everything we were hoping for and more. Most importantly Eve highly approves of her new nanny. Tory does too, for that matter.

little miss fusspot

Despite what the selective content of this blog may suggest, Eve's life is not peaches and cream 100% of the time. During the past couple weeks she has been crying more in the evenings. Not to the point of qualifying as colicky (knock on wood), but enough to frazzle Mom and Dad. Yesterday evening we gave her some Mylicon, and that seemed to work like a charm. Baths and walks (not easy in the Michigan winter!) also help soothe her. Bouncing her still helps sometimes, but is no longer the panacea it was during her first two months. We remain optimistic that we can outwit little miss fusspot.

cousin Eli

Eli recently celebrated his 8 month birthday. We really enjoyed spending time with him. He has a constant smile and chuckle to offer to everyone. He is a bundle of energy, to put it mildly. It would be interesting to put him in the same room as Eve's cousin Samuel. I'm not sure if Superman, Superwoman, or any other action hero could keep up with both at the same time.

pictures from Mexico

Tired after a week of vacation.

Wearing white before Easter is socially acceptable, especially in Mexico.
Not that Eve cares much about social acceptability at this stage.

chilling at home

Back to chilling in sub-freezing temperatures. The flight home was more challenging than the flight to Mexico. Eve was as fussy as she's ever been. Now we know what it's like to be those people with the loud baby in a crowded plane. Some passengers expressed sympathy or encouragement, but others were probably thinking other things. Too bad for them...infants deserve to visit Mexico too.

Eve seems happy to be home. She misses her relatives though, and looks forward to seeing more of them in the coming months. Hope everyone is doing well! I'll post more pictures from Mexico soon.
