Evie's early birthday celebration (Dec 19)

We had an early birthday celebration on December 19th at Chuckee Cheese. We probably won't return to that place (insanely crowded, worst pizza ever and that includes microwavable), but it was memorable and most importantly Eve had fun. I hope to catch up soon with photos from our trip to Arkansas (Dec 20-28). Eve is now 2 and her talking has exploded in the last couple weeks. Whereas many two year olds seem to ask a lot of questions, at this point she's more interested in making statements...

entertainment

Eve has always liked music and now she's able to express her tastes more clearly. We got her a mini-synthesizer keyboard (her "new piano!"), and she insists on setting it to play "Twinkle, twinkle, little star" ("twinkle!") over and over. Aunt Nina gave us a bunch of CDs with kid music, and her favorites are "Chim, Chiminy" from Mary Poppins and "Bear Necessities" from the Jungle Book. She asks us to replay those songs even before they end, and to our knowledge there is no limit to the number of times she would like to repeat them. The music has actually made car rides really easy lately, as she's glad to sit back, listen to her songs, and hold her boogies (blankets).

Eve has also taken more interest in television. She loves a Canadian cartoon called Caillou. The kids in the show are so well-behaved and thoughtful that it's hard not to roll your eyes and laugh, but it does seem like a nice example for Eve to see (as long as she's watching a little TV). We also have seen a few movies--Wallace and Gromit, Finding Nemo, and Monsters Inc--which have delighted her. Don't worry, TV police...we're not planning to let Eve junk out. Just a little here and there....
