calm in the storm

A brief pause in hair-pulling/toy-snatching/kicking/hitting.

Ella on the potty

We haven't been actively pursuing potty training for Ella, but she seems to enjoy the perch on the throne.  You can see the pride in her eyes. And yesterday, for the first time, she produced results.

look back at Election Day

While the rest of the world was fretting about the presidential election, Eve had a more pressing question on her mind: can a spoon substitute for a straw?

you'll get the hang of it!

When Eve and I play sports, she loves to remind me, "You'll get the hang of it!" I don't know where she got that phrase, but I appreciate the encouragement.  As you can see in the video, however, Eve is not above bending the rules with a little rough play.

Thanksgiving

Another indication of global warming: it was over 60 degrees here on Thanksgiving.  We had a nice time at my colleague Daniel Lee's house.  We contributed a few food items as shown below.  The first is one of my favorite desserts from childhood years in France: oeufs a la neige (eggs in snow).  The second is a chocolate pecan tart that was maybe overcooked but still tasted good.  The third is a cucumber and pear salad.

hungry for Obama

Louis and his girlfriend Charlotte at an election night event that he organized as a culmination of "Hungry for Obama" (www.hungryforobama.com). Oma and Opa Eisenberg were also in attendance.  Louis put an incredible amount of time, energy, and creativity into helping Obama get re-elected.

garden of Eve

Eve and her garden that was planted 1.5 years before she was born.
Both are beautiful and a bit wild.

visit by Uncle Louis (late August)

We really enjoyed Uncle Louis's visit in late August.  Eve did not want him to leave.

friends

Here are photos with two friends, Jula and Enka (sisters), that the girls see often.  Their parents, Andrei (Russian) and Agnes (Polish), live a couple blocks away and we meet up frequently for dinner and playdates.  Andrei is a colleague of Martha's in the economics department, and Agnes is a family physician who also works at the university.  They and their girls are a lot of fun, and Eve frequently requests (demands) to hang out with them.

Emerald Isle (a month ago)

Over a month ago we went to the beach at Emerald Isle, NC, where Daniel's family used to go every summer.  It was a busy and very fun week.  During the first half of the week we spent time with Daniel's high school friends and their respective families (with 8 children ages 0-3 between our families).  During the second half of the week we met up with Rebecca's family, who made the long drive down from Somerset, PA.  The pictures below are plagiarized from Rebecca's blog.  We actually do have a bunch of other pictures and videos (if I remember correctly), and will post them some day soon I hope...
