kookaburra

Lately we've been calling her kookaburra, or just kooka for short. Not sure why but it seems to fit.

4-month visit to pediatrician

The pediatrician was impressed with Eve at her four month check-up today. She remarked on Eve's calm demeanor and robust growth. I know that encouraging parents is part of her job, but I think she was sincerely charmed and pleased with our little one. Maybe it was Eve's well-rounded proportions: 65th percentile in everything (height, weight, head).

Eve did shriek when she got her shots, but she calmed down after a minute or two.

Otherwise, the big news here is that the temperature is approaching 80 degrees today. Our first spring weather!

bouncy, bouncy, bouncy, fun, fun, fun

first night without mommy

Martha flew yesterday to UVA, and she'll give a talk there this afternoon and then return late tonight. So last night was Eve's first without her mommy. I was afraid that Eve was going to be upset when she woke up at night and was offered the bottle instead of the mommy. Fortunately, though, she was fine. She woke up around midnight, drank from the bottle, went back to sleep, and then did it again around 4 am. I got less sleep than usual (though not too bad), and gained appreciation for what a normal night for Martha is like these days. Of course, we both miss her a lot and can't wait for her return.

A preview of upcoming posts: Evie doing a jig in the bouncy chair, which she now loves.

hoping for a roll

this is how we roll

Eve's latest trick is rolling over from tummy to back. She seems pretty comfortable on the tummy. Looks like we might have a crawler in the near future...

brunch at the Northside Grill

Eve's active social life included brunch today at the Northside Grill with our friend Elizabeth, who took these pictures with her iPhone. Martha is slowly making her way towards purchasing an iPhone for herself...

hark the sound of Tar Heel voices...

Eve is definitely invited to Lake Woebegon

Eve is now around the 75th percentile in weight and slightly above the median in height.

Her cheeriest time of the day is right after she wakes up.
And she especially likes getting her diaper changed.

The Bumbo chair suits her.

Little Chub Chub has been getting a lot taller lately. Up to around 24-25 inches.

April in Michigan. It is what it is.

The Bumbo chair is ideal for those who like being the center of attention.

Babies must have incredible neck strength to be able to lift those big ole heads.

Eve checks out the Final Four on TV.

Eve and Martha about to enter Ford Field for the championship game.

Eve was *really* into the game.

Exhausted after a long night, but happy to be 1 for 1 in lifetime NCAA titles.

one game away...

Eve is going to attend her second basketball game tonight. In her first one, on December 3rd, her view was obstructed by amniotic fluid and various membrane layers. This time she will have a clear view of her favorite team going for a national title. Should be an interesting game...largest crowd ever to attend a Final Four game (around 75,000), and basically a home game for Michigan State. There is also a rumor that Obama will attend. Maybe he will see Eve and hold her for a photo-op. Most importantly Eve hopes that UNC can be 1 for 1 in NCAA titles during her lifetime. Little babies can dream...

Stay tuned for photos of Eve in her new Tar Heels onesie.
