Eve applies for a passport

We took Eve to the post office this afternoon to apply for a passport.

Why does a two week old need a passport? First, the passport books have shiny holograms inside, which will be fun for her to play with. Second, we're going on a family trip to Cancun with the Eisenbergs in late February, and the rules were recently changed so that infants need passports for international travel. I, for one, feel safer knowing that infants that have been training with al Qaeda can no longer roam freely across borders.

We only had to wait in line a couple minutes, but things were not as smooth after that. The main issue was getting Eve to open her eyes for the passport photo. Apparently you are not allowed to sleep through your photo session. Fortunately Martha has figured out how to shake her gently so that she opens her eyes for a bit. Just long enough for a couple shots and then right back to sleep. We occupied about 45 minutes of a very patient postal worker's time. The people in the line accumulating behind us probably were not too happy, but what were they going to do, complain about a 7 pound baby in pink pajamas?
